Behind our house block are Moreton Bay figs nearing 100 years old, which we have had local government heritage listed, along with the buildings, enabling generations, in the future, to visit a property and see just what rural school houses were once like, as the exterior of both the school house and teachers residence, will remain authentic. The North Kolan State School, was closed in 1989, after being opened in 1903. The school property was rented by school teachers and then lay dormant from 1993 to the time we purchased the property in 1995. During this time the virgin bush overtook the backyard. Marsupials and birds took up residence. We have had our worked cut out for us, but are making steady progress.

I have always had German Shepherd Dogs. Starting the love affair with a GSD, called Rini in the 1960's, when I was a small child. Rini was destined for the Vietnam war, but luckily for us was not hard enough on the sleeve. I could sit here for hours and talk about the antics he got up from fleaing our numerous Guinea Pigs and chooks to bringing his empty water dish to the back door for my Mum to fill, to protecting us from the gangs that walked our streets in the rougher part of western suburbs of Sydney, to walking with us kids into construction sites, having a builder try chasing us of with a large stick for Rini to go up to the builder, hold him firmly by the wrist until the builder drop the stick, he then collected the stick and us and took us out to safety. Rini cemented in me, the necessity for the GSD to have an exceptional character, nobility, vigor and strength. I have kept these aims as my number one goal ever since. My first love is the character of the GSD, followed by a beautiful head to go with those beautiful brains. 1. Shorty, 2. Bella, 3. Khan, 4. Tallis and Karma, 5, Buddy & Jack, 6, Lugar, 7. Beau
In 1996, I commenced obedience training with my long coat girl, Rovert Angel 'A'Z' C.D (Yana)
Yana was my learning curve and I learnt a lot, that would place me onto the path that I am now following. Yana gained her title in 2000, being my first obedience dog and living in a rural area, where obedience trials were hard to get to, we eventually titled. Her strong points were her retrieve, heel work and recall, this dog danced in the ring, she was also an excellent watch dog, reinforced into our puppies, that we purchased or bred, just what was expected of them and was a surrogate mother to many. She was also adept at warning us of snakes and would often put herself between the snakes and my children, whilst our feral backyard was being re-established. She also guarded our car and children with her life. Jaola Dashing Boy 'A' C.D, was our next dog. Zac was chosen as a show dog, for the all breeds ring, as in those days I had never heard of the specialist ring. He unfortunately grew too large, tipping the measuring stick at 67cm, but was a magic dog to live with, very reliable and trustworthy with my children, so much so that I could entrust Shinead to take him into Advance obedience class, at our local club, when she was just 6 years old, she was very proud of her efforts and her dog, for many adults were not as adept at handling their own.
Katie, aged 2.5 y.o and Zac Zac, gained his C.D title in about 12 months of commencing his training, after retiring from the all breeds show ring. Unfortunately, due to inappropriate instruction I gained at my old club, he never liked the dumb bell and was then retired from the ring, once he gained his C.D. |
Liakhan Nitea Passion 'A'Z' came to us and produced a son, Leabashiba Asher Khan, who lives with a family in Cairns, Cinta was desexed not long after this, as she had a difficult whelp and maternal instincts.
It has not been until Tairnbacher Winkie Woo 'A'Z' BSC.1, Karma , came into our lives that finally, I knew the future looked very bright for us. Karma joined us nearly 3 years ago, thanks to Sandra Williams, Tairnbacher Kennels.
Karma hamming it up for the camera, the 30kg lap dog.
Karma had limited litters, her first being Jack's litter and Jack being the only surviving puppy, we kept Jack and trained him up, for a future working dog career.
Jack gained 47pts in his limited show career, before 9 months of age, including Best in Group 5's, numerous C.C's and Puppy in Show, Jack is now in training, in Canberra to be a working dog, Jack pocesses strong retrieve, was working 100 meter cross tracks by 10 months of age and was our loyal companion
Some of the puppies from Karma's second litter: 1. Dixie, 2. Tallis, 3. PK, 4. Shorty
Karma's next and final litter, was Tallis's, due to Karma contracting a life threatening uterine infection called Pyometra and was desexed on the emergency operating table. This litter produced 6 gorgeous puppies, confirming, what I believed, that she could produce, her chosen partner was Masterton Leica Legend. Karma has given us the legacy of Tallis and Pk (lovingly owned by our good friend, Irene Hayton of Masterton Kennels. CJ has been our latest mum, she proved to be a wonderful mother, very protective and caring of them in their first weeks of life. The sire is Masterton Danntes Peak, the mating was chosen for the strength of character and conformation that should eventuate. The litter was not bred for the show ring, thou some of her puppy owners are wanting to try their hand at this fun hobby, the litter was to cement the character producing power of Crossfire Cantona, Astasia Yinda (a repeat mating of A.O.C & Aust Champ. Astasia Carson) and Orrinshir Ginger Rogers (who is behind our boy Jack's dam, Karma too) I look forward to sharing the future with our puppies families. Our future is now resting on Tallis, CJ, Crysta and Indy. They are what we want in our dogs, strength of character, structure and type. Our future looks very bright. To date, December, 2003, we have bred 49 puppies, since 1996. I love to hear from our puppy buyers and share in their experiences, photos and more. I have a policy that I will take back any Leabashiba puppy for life, to date, we have done this three times, one because the dog was abused and neglected, the other two due to the owners change in circumstances, moving house and not being able to take their dogs. The dogs have then go off to loving new homes, once assessed by us and rehabilitation being carried in what ever regard necessary. We guarantee our puppies and stand by the fact, no character no German Shepherd Dog. In keeping with our breeds, founder, Capt Max v Stephanitz, we are a small kennel, situated in Bucca, Bundaberg, Qld, Australia. Renowned for dogs with wonderful temperaments and character. We only use German Shepherd Dogs in our breeding program, that we would want to have as companions ourselves.
